Hipshack is a Rock-Funk-Soul-Jazz-Jam-Variety Power Trio.
Performing the music from such artists as : the Police/Sting, Led Zeppelin, Bob Marley, Dave Matthews Band, Eric Clapton, SRV, Jimi Hendrix, Sublime, Stone Temple Pilots, Prince, John Mayer, Maroon 5, Lenny Kravitz, James Brown, Marvin Gaye to John Scofield, the Funky Meters, John Coltrane, Duke Ellington, Dave Brubeck and Miles Davis.
These three educated and talented musicians tightly incorporate a large variety of styles to create the unique groove of Hipshack. Outside of performing in hundreds of clubs, colleges, festivals, corporate events and venues in the United states.

• Performing in the Farrelly Brothers movie—”SHALLOW HAL.” You can see Scott playing the saxophone at Rosemary’s (Gwyneth Paltrow) reception (seen at the end of the movie).
•Opening for such artists as Mother’s Finest, Charlie Hunter, Ray Charles & Regina Belle as well as performing with Edwin McCain.
•Showcase performance for the New York International Independent Film Festival at Madison Square Garden. The band won Best Movie Soundtrack for “a Bettor’s Life.”

The Band
Hailing from Charlotte, NC, Scott McCloud (electric bass, vocals, keyboards and saxophone) has been performing in the United States as a full time musician for the past 15 years playing every style from jazz, funk, rock, reggae, rhythm & blues to country. After winning the Downbeat Magazine award for “Best Instrumental Jazz Soloist” (1992) and receiving his BM in Music Performance from Winthrop University (1994), he relocated to Dallas/FT Worth to earn his Masters Degree in Jazz Studies from the University of North Texas (1998).
Upon returning from Texas in 1998, Scott assembled a group of local funk/jazz musicians known as the “Scott McCloud Group/Trio.” The “Scott McCloud Trio” CD was favorably reviewed by Jazz Times Magazine in its May 2000 Jam Band issue along other artist as Medeski Martin & Wood, Galactic and Soulive. In 1999 Scott assembled a new jazz/funk group called Hipshack. Hipshack went on to record 2 CD’s and perform around the United States with the United States Tennis Association. As of late, Scott has increased his musical endeavors as to include more styles of rock, alternative and popular music with Hipshack.
Scott has performed and recorded with talented artists including jazz legend Slide Hampton, Wycliffe Gordon, Edwin McCain, University of North Texas Lab Bands, the Jon Thornton Swing Thing, Second Hand Soul, Chronic, the Beloved Praise Band, Sugar Coated Sweet, the Scott Jeffrey’s Band, Russ Wilson’s Mighty-Mighty Men, Texas Bluesman-Joe Silva, Hipshack and the House of Funk.
Brian Burton (Drums) refers to the seat behind his drum kit as "home." The majority of his life has been spent studying the art form that is drumming - meanwhile developing his own uniquely brilliant approach to making those musicians around him that much better. Drummer Brian Burton comes to Hipshack from Grand Rapids, MI, where he spent his time as acting “Head of Drum Instruction” at RIT Music and performing with bands in his area - ranging from Blues, Jazz, Reggae, and Funk.
Before graduating from Berkley College of Music in 2001, he played with many groups both live and in the studio. He studied under Dave DiCenso, Rod Morgenstein, and Kenwood Dennard among others. In 1999, Brian was awarded the NHCMA Rising Star Instrumentalist of the year for his work with Brooke Starr. Brian has learned from and played with the greatest teachers in the world, now he looks to lay it down behind the ever-growing sound of Hipshack.
Jeremy Shaw (Guitar/Vocals) is a performing, recording, and song-writing artist based in Charlotte, NC. He blends a wide variety of styles and traditions into his own unique sound. His guitar work ranges from acoustic finger-style to angular modern jazz. Jeremy studied composition and performance at the Berkley College of Music in Boston. He has worked professionally with numerous acts and musicians throughout the north and southeast for over fifteen years. Jeremy has extensive studio recording experience and appears on many CD releases. He maintains a sizable student roster in Charlotte, NC. Jeremy was born in Utica and attended the Berkley College of Music, where he studied composition and performance. Jeremy spent the next several years in Boston and has performed with members of Phish, G Love & Special Sauce, Moon Boot Lover, Soulive, Schleigho, and others, as they passed through Boston. After almost a decade in Boston, Jeremy moved back south eventually settling in Charlotte, NC, where he lives with his family.
